I had the pleasure of reading your review of David Strahan's "The Last Oil Shock," posted at the EnergyNet. I also saw his interview with George Galloway.

Strahan puts into words what I have long researched and proven to my own satisfaction: Bush acted on his promise made during the 2000 election to "convince OPEC to open its spigots." Now we understand all too well that Bush has only one solution for any international problem--military force.

An interesting footnote to the story is that Strahan's book is still not available in the United States, though it was published in March. However, it can be ordered from the UK for as little as 6.74 pounds.

It makes you wonder if there are forces besides publishing contracts that really prefer that Americans not be exposed to Strahan's research.

For anybody interested, the edition of Friday's programme "The Last Word" which you refer too can still be downloaded from todayfm.com. The piece on Peak Oil can be heard on the 5 to 6pm segment and starts 28 minutes into the piece.

Eoin

P.S. - Really enjoying the blog, Graham.

Fascinating stuff Graham! Today FM occasionally surprises me too - I reckon Mat Cooper has an open mind to the bigger issues.

Just to take the nuclear thing a bit further - for me, the nuclear option is much worse than 'clutching at straws' because it might do what the proponents hope - it might keep 'the economy' and population growth going a bit longer. It is 'the economy' and over population that destroys forests, pollutes seas, over-fishes, over extracts minerals and by proxy causes climate change.

The sooner there is a collapse of economies and population the better. Hopefully both will be managed voluntarily and gently. That's a big 'hopefully'!

PS: Really enjoyed the 'Peak Opportunity' pieces too.
