Thanks for that Graham. I like the idea of holding a party for the end of
our 150 year binge of oil. Really the theme would be the start of our
creative descent, a celebration of the introduction of a decarbonised
culture. Yes it really is an amazing time to be alive, utterly exhilarating
- we are in some ways so privileged and in another way, cursed.

Privileged to be part a world wide movement not named but full of
interesting and brilliant people. People that are out there in their own way
doing what they do, with what little resources they have, to respond to the
challenges thrown up by peak oil and climate change. We are living in truly
accelerating times with a sea change in awareness on these issues -
exhilarating. Our time has come, surely now the initiatives that the
grassroots global sustainability movement have been developing will be
properly funded and resourced. Permaculture, local food systems, community
energy solutions, local economies, and all the other appropriate tools and
processes that have been developed to ensure a just and creative descent.

These tools and processes need to be mainstreamed as quickly as possible.
That is a massive challenge and one I, for one am so happy to be a part of.
I am reminded of John Seymour's line. "I am only one, and I can do only what
one can do, but what one can do, I will do." Knowing that there are
thousands of others out thinking like this gives me hope. Soon it will be
millions, very soon it seems. It needs to be and we may not have time. That
is why we are also cursed. Our leaders are taking us in the completely wrong
direction, the majority of the planet are partying on like it was 1999, and
it might be impossible to turn things around.

But hope is a renewable resource, and I am optimistic by nature so lets
usher in the new and celebrate the transition. Never before has a challenge
like climate change and peak oil had the power to unite us and act as a
catalyst to accelerate the adoption of sustainability. Lets play our part.

Slow down. Go further..
